Sunset Veranda

The City of Stirling's independent FRINGE WORLD pop-up venue, Sunset Veranda showcases a huge variety of local and international talent each year in January and February at  Brighton Reserve, Scarborough Beach. Featuring comedy, music, cabaret, dance and kids shows. With an exciting mix of free and low cost events, the venue attracted crowds of around 15,000 to over 50 events held throughout the season.

Sunset Veranda 2020

The award-winning Sunset Veranda pop-up venue returns to Scarborough Beach this Summer, and we’re on the lookout for some fabulous folk to perform at the venue!

Who are we?

Sunset Veranda is the City of Stirling’s independent pop-up FRINGE WORLD venue situated on Brighton Reserve, Scarborough Beach. It hosts a season of world-class entertainment amongst a buzzing seaside atmosphere with ticketed shows in the Big Top circus tent and free entry to the adjacent pop-up bar which features local musicians on the ‘Under the Sky’ stage

In 2019, Sunset Veranda had higher than expected attendances with over 14,000 attending the venue across the 20 days. We saw record breaking numbers with 21 sold out shows and four shows winning FRINGE WORLD Weekly Awards.

Sunset Veranda will host performances for the entire FRINGE WORLD season (Friday 17 Jan to Sunday 16 February 2020). The venue will be open to the public from 5pm to 10pm Thursday and Friday, opening 3pm -10pm on weekends and open for additional days & hours in an unlicensed capacity for family programming.

What can we offer?

  • A variety of performance time slots including family friendly morning and early evening sessions
  • Outstanding marketing resources; as we are Perth’s largest council, we can get your message out far and wide, with excellent penetration in Perth’s most engaged postcodes
  • A unique and stunning coastal location, giving you prime access to new audiences from all along the northern corridor
  • Artist development program - supporting you with the marketing campaigns on social media
  • Onsite box office and front of house team
  • Quality tech including operator/s
  • Dressing room facilities
  • Competitive ticket split arrangements and delivered fees upon negotiation
  • All round good times!

Who are we looking for?

A little bit of everything! In the past we have had a mix of comedy, music, circus, cabaret, burlesque, theatre, and children’s shows and arts workshops.

Our audience is comprised mostly of families and young adults who have mixed but mostly “entry level” experiences with the arts. It is essential that all events and activities are inclusive and accessible to the community; therefore all events at the Sunset Veranda must be free or low cost ($30 or less) so that everyone in the community has the opportunity to attend events regardless of their background.

Please note: shows with risqué, confronting or “left of field” material will be considered, however, as a local government run event there are limitations on how far we can push the envelope with our programming, and places for these types of shows will be limited. We recommend getting in touch early to discuss your idea before submitting an EOI.

If you would like to perform at the Sunset Veranda we recommend getting in touch asap as timeslots fill up fast.

Performance Spaces

Big Top

The Big Top is a fully licensed and air-conditioned circus tent with flexible audio, lighting options and a 200 person capacity (seated). Last year saw a huge variety of acts utilise the space including circus, comedy, dance, cabaret and more! Ticketed shows only.

Under the Sky Stage

In addition to the Big Top, presenters have the opportunity to perform in the open-air area of the Sunset Veranda on our Under the Sky stage. Generally all performances within this space are free/unticketed. We are looking for static or roving entertainment as well as busker style acts suitable for bar crowds to cater to the great mix of family and adult groups who stay to enjoy the summer beachside atmosphere before and after nightly shows.

Under the Sky Performance Space

The Under the Sky Performance Space comprises of the entire free-entry area between the venue entrance and the ticketed Big Top. The area is a grassed reserve, populated by flexible seating for the public who will be enjoying the bar and food facilities in the evenings.  We are looking for presenters groups who can offer dance classes, kids’ activities and community events. We encourage presenters to get creative with the space.

Getting there

The Sunset Veranda is a pop-up venue which will be built on Brighton Reserve, 204 The Esplanade, Scarborough WA 6019

You can find us south of the new Scarborough Beach Pool, next to C-Breeze Kiosk.

Why not take advantage of our glorious location and walk, cycle or use public transport to get here! There will be VIP Bike Parking right at the entry to the Sunset Veranda.

The Sunset Veranda is conveniently located near the Scarborough Beach Busport, with buses running from both Glendalough and Stirling train stations. The 990, 410, 421 and 422 bus routes all service Scarborough Beach.

Visit for more information on bus routes, walking and cycling paths in the area.

Ride sharing services are a convenient and affordable way to get to and from the venue safely. The ideal drop off point for ride sharing services is at the cul-de-sac at the southern end of The Esplanade or (for ramp access from the road) at 199 The Esplanade.

Scarborough attracts families from far and wide, so parking is limited. If you absolutely must drive, it is recommended that you allow yourself extra time to find parking.

In addition to the general parking areas along the Esplanade, we recommend parking in the following locations:

  • Wilson Parking multi-level car park on Manning Street . Two hours free or $5 for all day parking (approximately 800m north of the venue).
  • Paid parking underneath the Rendezvous Hotel, access via West Coast Hwy and The Esplanade (approximately 500m north of the venue).
  • 110 Free parking bays in the Reserve Street carpark off West Coast Highway (approximately 1km north of the venue).

Please be respectful of our neighbours by not parking on their verges or blocking their driveways. Parking patrols are regularly undertaken in the area and fines for illegal parking will apply. This includes parking in no-stopping zones, on residential verges, driveways, tow away zones etc.

Ticket refunds will not be offered to patrons who are late because they couldn’t find parking, so please plan ahead, and use alternate methods of transport where possible.

The Sunset Veranda is a grassed venue accessible by wheelchair.

The closest ACROD bays are in the lower Esplanade carpark, with the entry off Brighton Road. It is recommended that patrons parking in these bays use the footpath around C-Breeze Kiosk towards the entry to the Sunset Veranda. This is the most direct path to our venue entrance and has the least incline.

Our Big Top performance space has seating allocated for people with accessibility needs and their companions. We recommend you get in touch with the venue prior to attending to advise us of any accessibility needs you may have so that we can greet you at the venue and grant you priority access to the show.

Some shows in our program feature Auslan translation or Audio Description services and many of our shows are considered relaxed performances, welcoming to neurodiverse audiences. Please check individual shows in our program for more information.

The Sunset Veranda will return for the 2019 Fringe World Festival with a season of activities, performances and entertainment at Scarborough Beach.

The Sunset Veranda is a pop-up open-air bar, with free entry to the public, delicious food vendors, a viewing area to watch the glorious sunset and an enclosed ticketed performance space.

Attendees to the Sunset Veranda are able to relax and enjoy the summer beachside atmosphere before and after shows. As the pop-up bar is an attraction in itself, a great mix of family and adult groups float in and out all evening.
