Bird Feeding

Look after our wildlife in wetlands and bushland reserves

We all enjoy the unique and amazing wildlife found within the City, and we want to ensure that we continue to keep them happy and healthy!

Please DO NOT feed our beautiful animals, in particular our variety of birds. Unfortunately over the last few months there has been an increase in illness and deaths in the City’s wetlands due to avian botulism.

For more information, please contact the City’s Conservation Officer on (08) 9205 8555.

  • There are 68 bushland conservation reserves within the City’s boundaries. These reserves are maintained by conservation programs as specified in the Bushland Conservation Plan. The City also has 150 smaller reserves that link to major bushland reserves.

  • There are 24 natural and 13 artificial lakes and wetlands in the City of Stirling. These are home to important vegetation and wildlife such as migratory wetland birds, long-neck turtles, various frog species and paperbark trees.

Several lakes and wetlands within the City form part of a chain that runs north-south along the Swan Coastal Plain within the Spearwood, Bassendean and Quindalup dune systems.

A total of 37 specific sites are managed to prevent weed invasion, improve biodiversity and to prevent a decline in water quality.
