About us

Stirling Women's Centre provides crisis accommodation for women and children due to family and domestic violence. Family and domestic violence may involve physical, sexual or emotional threats.

Stirling Women's Centre provides information and support for the following services:       

  • Housing information
  • Income/financial counselling 
  • Police and court support
  • Family violence restraining orders
  • Counselling services for women and children
  • Legal advice
  • General welfare
  • Safe accommodation
  • Safety planning
  • Four week FDV education
  • Expanding social networks
  • Interpreting services
  • Referrals to external agencies

Stirling Women's Centre staff can also support and transport you when attending court to obtain a family violence restraining order.

What we provide

Accommodation

Stirling Women's Centre provides short term crisis accommodation (6-8 weeks) for women and children who are experiencing or escaping family and domestic violence. There is an accommodation fee charged at $100.00 per week and a bond of $100.00.

Information

Centre staff are able to provide information on housing options, family violence restraining orders, counselling services, children's counselling, family and domestic violence issues, educational opportunities, parenting and other support groups.

Support

The Centre can provide support and assistance for accessing income, emergency relief and other avenues for the supply of food, clothing and other material aid.

We are also able to provide basic counselling in all matters relating to family and domestic violence, and provide non-judgemental support and advocacy for women and children to try and break the cycle of violence.

Advocacy

At your request, our staff will advocate on your behalf in situations where you may feel unfamiliar or unsure of the process, or need other assistance.

Referrals

With your consent, Centre staff can provide referrals to Centrelink, the Department for Communities, Housing Authority, community housing programs, community legal centres, the Domestic Violence Legal Unit, the Domestic Violence Advocacy Support Service (DVASS).

Eligibility

Stirling Women's Centre accommodation and support services are available to women and children who are in crisis due to family and domestic violence.

Children

Family and domestic violence in the family hurts children too. All children are seen as clients in their own right and services are provided to help them understand and deal with this hurt.

Centre staff can to assist with enrolling school-age children in the local school or childcare centre.
