The Dog Act 1976 and Dog Regulations 2013 detail restrictions regarding certain breeds of dogs. Under the laws the following dogs are classified as a Dangerous Dog (Restricted Breed).

  • American Pit Bull Terrier
  • Dogo Argentina (Argentinean fighting dog)
  • Fila Brasilerio (Brazilian fighting dog
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Perro de Presa Canario (Canary dog) and
  • Any dog visibly containing any of the above breeds.
