Are You Being Bullied?

If you’re being bullied, it’s important to know you are NOT alone! There are plenty of kids all over the world that go through the same things every day. Being bullied can make you feel pretty awful and at times helpless. Its import to know being bullied is not your fault, nobody deserves to be bullied!

There are things you can do tho stop the bullying, here are some tips:

  • Tell an Adult- most adults care about bullying and will do everything they can to help you. Usually the bullying won’t stop until an adult gets involved, so be sure to report it!
  • Stay in a group- there is less chance of you being picked on if you are with others
  • If it feels safe, stand up to yourself- tell the person bullying you that you don’t like it and that they should stop. Avoiding bullying back or resorting to fighting, as this is often what the bully wants. Be the better person!
  • If your being bullied online, don’t reply- if possible block anymore communication from the person
  • Join clubs or take part in activities where you’ll meet other kids- you may meet other kids who share the same interests and you might make some good friends

Don’t

  • Keep it to yourself and hope the bullying will stop, you will need support from someone close to you.
  • Think your being a “dobbed” the person shouldn’t be bullying in the first place.
  • Skip school or the places you like, you have every right to be there!
  • Hurt yourself! This won’t resolve anything or help the situation.

Health Care

There are lots of ways to keep yourself healthy and happy, and lots of services you can access for medical health advice and information. Seeing a doctor can be expensive, however, it can be made cheaper by using a Medicare Card, a Low Income Health Care Card or Private Health Insurance to help cover part of the costs. You can try and find a medical service that ‘bulk bills’ which means that you don’t have to pay anything. Otherwise, pay your bill, keep your receipt and visit your local Medicare or private health insurance office.

When you are 15 you can register for your own Medicare Card. Go to www.medicareaustralia.gov.au   to download a Medicare enrolment form. Be careful with the information you get from the internet, as sometimes the information is old or incorrect.

Body Image

Your Body Image is the way you think and feel about your body and the way you look. The way you feel about your Body Image is largely influenced by the media and the peer group you hang out with.

Some interesting facts to know about Body Image are;

  • Only 5 to 10% of females are around the same weight as models

  • Magazines airbrush their models and use fancy lighting to make the models look better

  • Images in magazines rarely reflect the average person, shape, size or culture
