Waste and Recycle Tour
FREE for City of Stirling residents Date:Wednesday 3 February 2010 Time: 9.00am to 12.30pm Tour: Tour of Recycling Centre Balcatta, 238 Balcatta Road, Balcatta & Tamala Park Waste and Recycling facility, Marmion Avenue, Marmion. Meeting Point: City of Stirling Administration Centre Car Park, 25 Cedric Street, Stirling (grassy area behind main car park).
Household rubbish: Is it a waste or a resource? - Come and find out!
During the tour: • You will see the state-of-the-art landfill, plus the variety of products that are being actively recycled; • You will see the power plant where methane gas from the landfill is turned into electricity; • You will learn about the new resource recovery facility, which takes household waste and turns it into compost; and • You will learn about the steps you can take to reduce what goes in to your bin to minimise what ends up in landfill.
The tour also includes a walking tour of the City of Stirling’s Recycling Centre at Balcatta which receives goods and green waste for recycling and re-use. All of the green waste brought to this centre is turned into mulch - another valuable resource.

Worm Farm Workshop
FREE for City of Stirling residents Date:Wednesday 17 February 2010 Time:6.00pm to 8.00pm Venue: City of Stirling Work Depot, Natalie Way, Balcatta
Worm Farms are great for your household and the environment! Do you want to:
- Reduce the amount of waste in your wheelie bin?
- Reduce the use of artificial fertilisers in your garden?
- Have access to an unlimited supply of natural fertiliser and liquid soil conditioner?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should own a worm farm.
The seminar includes a presentation and a practical demonstration on how to set up, operate and maintain a worm farm.
Complete worm farm systems including a four tray Can-O-Worms, 1kg of specially bred worms and 20 litres of castings, can be purchased on the seminar evening at the subsidised price of $150.
