TravelSmart schools

Kids love being TravelSmart!  Remember how good it felt to walk to school with your friends? The feeling of independence, of freedom, of being a grown up?

Remember how much you loved riding your bike to school, with the wind blowing in your hair and feeling invincible?
Schools in the City of Stirling are helping a new generation of children to experience the simple pleasures of travelling to and from school under their own steam, rather than being driven there in a car.

TravelSmart schools are Healthy and Active schools

The City of Stirling's TravelSmart program can help make local roads safer for children, reduce parking congestion around schools, and make it easier and more fun for parents and children to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

The City of Stirling can help schools who wish to encourage students to use healthy and active transport more often to develop a School Travel Plan – a package of actions that can be implemented by the school, the parents, and the children themselves with assistance from the City. Over time, the School Travel Plan will help to create a safer school environment with fewer cars, and increase the number of children who walk, cycle or scoot to school. An example Travel Plan can be viewed using the links below.

TravelSmart events

A number of major events are held each year to encourage families to walk cycle or scoot to school instead of driving there. Hosting an event day at your school is a great way to remind parents just how easy, fun and stress-free it is to leave the car at home and use healthy and active transport instead.
  • March: WA Cycle to School day and National Ride to School Day
  • April / May - Walk Safely to School Day
  • September 22nd - World Car Free Day
  • October - WA Walk to School Day
  • Walk N Wheel Wednesdays / Fume-Free Fridays  / TravelSmart Tuesdays
Why not hold a weekly TravelSmart Day at your school to make healthy and active transport part of your schools culture? The City of Stirling can provide support and sponsorship to help get your TravelSmart campaign off the ground.
