Please tightly wrap individual sheets of asbestos in durable plastic before taking to the Recycling Centre. A maximum of three sheets can be dropped off each day, with a charge of $1.00 per sheet for rate payers and $2.00 a sheet for non rate payers. This charge applies to cover contractor fees for operating this disposal point.

General waste

A fee applies to disposal of the following waste which cannot be recycled or reused.  The fee covers transport, State Government landfill levy and disposal costs.
• Mixed waste (metals, plastics, glass, cardboard, household junk, green waste and constructions waste)
• Construction waste (e.g. sand, soil, bricks, concrete and Super Six fencing not asbestos).  If the load has been inspected and the operator cannot determine if waste is Super Six or asbestos, it is the responsibility of the owner/driver to remove the load from site.
A discounted fee applies to clean green garden waste.  This fee covers transport and processing of the waste by contractors.  To receive the discounted fee the load must be completely free of contamination such as:
• Plastic
• Paper
• Metal.

Car tyres

Contractors are currently storing tyres, awaiting a recycling breakthrough. A disposal fee applies to cover contractor costs.

A separate fee of $8.00 per tyre is charged for the disposal of car tyres and an extra fee applies if the tyre is mounted on a wheel.  A maximum of 4 tyres can be dropped off each day.

Mattress disposal

Did you know that Australians send over 1.25 million mattresses to landfill each year?

The City of Stirling has commenced a recycling program to divert mattresses from landfill.

A fee of $15.00 per mattress now applies when taken over the weigh bridge. This disposal fee applies to cover recycling costs only.
Mattresses are stored in a separate area near the disposal wall for transportation to the Hazelmere Recycling Centre.

All materials in the mattress are recycled, timber into reusable woodchips, springs to scrap steel and foam/wadding into carpet underlay.

Alternatively residents/customers can recycle mattresses directly with the Hazelmere Recycling Centre. The $15.00 fee still applies. Please call (08) 9274 7807 for details.
