There are many opportunities in and around the City of Stirling to enjoy a leisurely stroll or a brisk walk. Find out about places to walk for fun and recreation.
It’s just a walk in the park... all 16 of them!
The following parks and reserves in the City of Stirling have dedicated walking trails:
• Stirling Gardens, Stirling (dogs must be kept on leash)
• Star Swamp, North Beach
• Lake Gwelup, Gwelup*
• Des Penman Reserve, Nollamara*
• Dianella Regional Open Space*
• Herdsman Lake Park*
• Carine Open Space*
• Yokine Reserve
* denotes parks that are popular areas for exercising dogs.
The following parks are also great exercise areas but maps are not currently available:
• Jackadder Lake, Woodlands
• Aintree Reserve, Hamersley
• Butlers Reserve, Scarborough,
• West Coast Highway coastal path
• Robinson Reserve, Tuart Hill

Handy walking hints
In order to prevent injury, please take note of the following tips:
• Warm-up and stretch before commencing exercise
• Drink lots of water, and don’t forget your dog too!
• Wear sunscreen and a hat
• In summer, avoid mid-afternoon walks
• Slow down if you become breathless
• If you experience pain or discomfort STOP immediately and seek medical advice.
Walking for health and recreation is easy within the City of Stirling, with a wealth of beautiful locations to choose from. Whether you enjoy walking through bushland, along the coast, around a lake or in the park, there are many options to choose from.
With a few exceptions, all parks in the City of Stirling are dog-friendly so why not take your 4-legged friend for a walk with you too?

A range of brochures can be picked up free of charge from either the City of Stirling Administration Centre on Cedric Street or any of our libraries .
Alternatively we can post brochures to you on request.
The Department of Transport has a vast amount of information online about walking. Topics include:
• Walking groups
• Walking campaigns and promotions
• Maps and guides
• Road safety.
Sharing paths with cyclists
• Many of the walking trails in the City of Stirling are shared use paths and are used by cyclists as well as walkers, so please keep dogs (and children!) are under control in these areas.
• Please also remember to keep left to avoid blocking the path for other users, and if you listen to music to keep the volume low so that you can hear cyclists' bells.
• Remember, cyclists ring their bell behind you to warn you of their presence, not to tell you to get out of their way!
