Mirrabooka Regional Centre

The City of Stirling has revitalising the Mirrabooka Regional at the request of landowners, based on issues and initiatives suggested by the State Government. The Improvement Strategy is a key driver of this process. Find out more about the Mirrabooka Regional Centre project.

The area between Reid Highway, Yirrigan Drive, Mirrabooka Avenue and Northwood Drive is known as the ‘Mirrabooka Regional Centre.’

Over the last few years, the City of Stirling has been engaged in a revitalisation process aimed at making the Centre a better place for work, shopping, and leisure. This began when major landowners expressed a desire to partner with the City to improve the area.

The Department for Planning and Infrastructure was invited to conduct an ‘enquiry by design’ workshop in 2000, which recognised that the Mirrabooka Regional Centre is not operating at full potential due to a number of commercial, design and social problems.

A number of initiatives were identified, and in 2002 the City adopted an Improvement Strategy to revitalise the Centre. This strategy includes the following objectives:

• To improve movement for all modes of transport
• To improve the integration of uses and buildings
• To diversify the land uses and services to cater for all users
• To promote the development of vacant sites
• To improve security, vibrancy and vitality
• To improve the image and appearance of the Centre
• To support and strengthen economic viability, diversity and future prospects.

In 2003, the City engaged consultants to review the land uses and zoning and produce a planning framework to guide the development of the Centre.

The City has since adopted several documents outline the direction and controls for redevelopment within the Mirrabooka Regional Centre, including:

• Scheme Amendment
• Draft Outline Development Plan (Concept Plan)
• Urban Style Guide
• Design Guidelines.
